Recent advertisements about legally eliminating debt?

I've heard a lot of commercials recently about a program that helps you eliminate debt without paying any money or borrowing any more (I heard the most recent ad I'm talking about on late night radio, on Coast to Coast AM with George Noory, last night). I am just really curious how that would work. Anybody know about this?
Oh, I know it is too good to be true. I was kind of wondering what the scam was. . .

Don't do it!!! My roomate worked for one of those companies and the Feds came and shut them down one day!
basically , you pay them to negotiate your bills for you. then you make a monthly payment, say $30 per month. They keep $10 and pay the other company $20 until the negotiated rate is paid off. they won't tell you what they negotiated it to, or they will lie about it.
Also it only helps your credit because you're paying it. they don't do anything magical with your credit!

Ask lenders for agreement to delete this items from your credit report when paying them. I recommend to get such agreement thru credit repair agency, for example this one - freecreditreport.hotusa.org

Does anyone know if Debt Elimination programs really work without bankruptcy?

I filled out an online application for information about getting rid of debt, and I've heard that you can legally eliminate your debt?? I've know that Settlement is a good option, but not sure about Elimination. Anyone know?

Many companies around are scams, so be careful. Here is a good site. www.SettleDebtForever.com. I eliminated $8,000 in debt 2 years ago. They also help with credit repair. My credit score was bad for about a year, but then it shot up pretty far in just about 30 days after I started the repair. Right now, it's 803. Just make sure you know what you're signing up for. I was happy with this company, but I was ready for what could possibly be at stake having low credit for awhile, but as long as you don't want to buy a house or car for 12 months, then it's usually ok. And with www.settledebtforever.com, you can choose either complete elimination or settlement, if you're not comfortable with one or the other. Just remember to research anyone that you sign up with! There are some legitimate companies out there, but just as many bad ones.

Is there a such thing as "canceling" your credit card debt?

Just yesterday I received an unsolicited email about a a credit card debt cancellation service called DebtClear. Coincidentally, I'm now looking to get out of debt so it's peaked my interest. However, I want to be careful. The program (called Court Mediation Services) explains how it can legally eliminate your debt (usually in several months) and get your credit re-established. Supposedly their organization is a team comprised of debt management specialist and debt attorneys... It sounds good but I have some suspicions. I filled out a simple opt-in form and they sent me to this url: http://www.debtclear.com/programs/5877587?nid=74923. I want to know if anyone has heard of this organization before or what kind of results they had with it. Anybody have any info on this?? Thank you kindly to all who can offer some help...

Boy this smells like dead fish to me. By the way, according to IRS rules any debt such as Credit Cards that is canceled or forgiven becomes taxable income to you and you have to claim it on your income tax returns (federal and state). I would stay clear of this crap. Someone is making money some where in all of this.

No relief for Arctic in minimalist climate deal Nunatsiaq News

COPENHAGEN — A last-minute agreement on climate change worked out Dec. 18 between the U.S., China, Brazil, India and South Africa at the COP15 climate change conference in Copenhagen offers little hope for improving dire scientific forecasts for a warming Arctic.

A draft of the agreement, to be known as the “Copenhagen Accord,” includes the following provisions:

• the increase in average global temperatures must be limited to 2 C;

• rich countries will give $30 billion to poor countries before 2012, to help them adapt to climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions;

• action to help small island countries, African countries and the world’s poorest countries, but not Arctic regions, is “urgently required;”

• rich countries set “a goal” of $100 billion to be given to poor, vulnerable countries by 2020, to be put into a “Copenhagen Green Climate Fund;”

• reporting systems under which countries must communicate how they plan to limit and measure greenhouse gas emissions;
