I have bad credit, rock bottom, and need a car so am considering applying for a bad credit car loan as I have no cosigner. Has anyone here ever had one? Did you regret it? What sort of interest rate were you paying? Thanks!
Yes the interest rate was about 14.% but I did it long enough to earn credit and get it refyed

Good Luck.
I want a specific car. I noticed with every poor credit auto loan lender they have to give you a car of their choice. How can I get what I want with a cosigner. I don't want to be declined again.
do you have a cosigner? if your cosigner has good credit, it shouldn't be an issue.
i have bad credit (score: 550) and a repossession, but i got the car i wanted from a dealer chain - the fact that it was a national chain made a huge difference since they work with more banks than the independent dealers.
my interest rate sucks (20.12%) and i had to settle for a 6 year loan instead of 5, but i did it without a cosigner, which means i'm rebuilding my credit and can refinance in a year or two.
so, depending on what you want, try to find a dealer that works with more banks than your local guys. make sure you have good monthly income and a sizeable down payment - they'll want between 25% - 50%, but you can probably get away with as little as 20%. if you don't have these two things, get a cosigner.
by the way - i forgot to mention that i originally set out for a used car but could only get approved for a new car. it seems the bank sees that as less of a risk due to the higher value.
I will have had my car for a year in June. Currently I pay $355 a month for my car, and my interest rate is in the 20's%. I have made all of my payments on time, is it a good time to start thinking about refinancing, or is it likely that I won't be approved? I do have pretty bad credit other wise. Also, does refinancing negatively effect your credit at all?
Applying for refinancing whether you get approved or not won't affect your credit score significantly. Any time you apply for credit you get a "hard inquiry" on your credit report. It may initially lower your credit score by about 5 points or so, but if you continue to make timely payments, your credit score will recover rather quickly.
If you are paying a high interest rate, there's a good chance you're currently "upside down" on your auto loan. Meaning you owe more than what the car is worth. Most lenders won't finance the entire loan if your loan is more than 120% of the vehicle's value. You may have to send in a large payment to pay down your loan before they will approve you for a refinance. This is something you should prepare for in advance.
If you've made on time payments for a year and haven't had any other bad marks in your credit report, you should go ahead and try to refinance. If you don't get approved, or don't like the terms of the refinance wait at least 6 months and apply again. Good luck!
I currently hve a car loan w/a 30% interest rate. The value per Kelleys Bluebook is $7265 2001 Alero I need a bigger vehicle. I am 1yr n2 a 36 mnth loan I would like a bigger vehicle @ or slightly abv
NO...Never Trade-in a Car. The Dealer buys it from you at Wholesale...to sell it at retail. If you want a different vehicle, Sell this one, Pay off the loan...and go buy another vehicle for CASH! That Interest rate is OBSCENE!!! You Need to Sell this Car IMMEDIATELY!!! That Loan is KILLING you!
I've bookmarked this site to go back to next time I need a loan...

Hope that helps.
sure, many dealers with in-house financing are happy to sign you up. Of course, you will be paying about 20% interest, but that's what happens with bad credit.
You can and should check your credit profile for free USA Today
This caution is usually justified, particularly when it comes to credit reports. Some companies use the offer of a "free" credit report or score to sell expensive credit-monitoring or other subscription services. The best-known example: FreeCreditReport.com, the subject of entertaining commercials featuring scruffy losers with bad credit. Since 2005, Experian , which owns FreeCreditReport.com , has paid the Federal Trade Commission $1.25 million to settle charges that its ads were misleading.
In recent months, though, several companies have launched websites that provide a credit profile at no cost.
The score you'll get from these sites is not the widely used FICO score that lenders use when you apply for a mortgage, credit card or car loan. But if you're simply looking to improve your credit standing in 2010, these sites provide a useful snapshot of where you stand.
None of the websites mentioned here require you to enter a credit card number, which means you don't have to worry about finding surprise charges on your credit card bill. They rely on advertising for revenue, so be prepared to see a lot of ads for credit cards, mortgages and other products.
